Business Messaging

Mar 14, 2024

Something my husband Alan and I legit love talking about is message. More specifically, the importance of a clear message in a business.

Do you know your business’s message?

I’m not talking about the brand.

And I’m not talking about product or service.

Your message is the soul of your business.

The message speaks through every element of your business: your name, your logo, your product, your packaging, your business cards, your mission statements, your business culture. It all pours out from your message.

Do you know what your message is? And are you conveying it consistently?

What’s Nike’s message? Is it “Just do it”?

Nope. That’s their tagline.

Nike’s message is about being active and playing the game… whatever your game is. That was their message long before Just Do It was born — which eventually conveyed their message in three simple words.

But the message was already there. It was in the design of the swoop icon. Heck, calling the swoop a “swoop” is part of the message. It’s about movement. Action. Getting out there and moving.

What’s your message?

One reason I love to help people with Instagram is that it’s a perfect sandbox for you to experiment with and hone your message and receive real feedback.

On Instagram, you can drastically alter your message or make small evolving tweaks over time.

Think of your Instagram as a dashboard for your message. It has your name, logo, language, video, posts, reels, stories, user interactions, user comments. All in this little compact page in the Insta universe. It helps you keep all of these elements singing together — conveying the same message.
